Decarbonization is a phenomenon in which the surface carbon content of steel bars decreases during heat treatment. The essence of decarbonization is that carbon atoms in steel produce methane or carbon monoxide to the atmosphere (such as hydrogen or oxygen) in the furnace at high temperature. Decarbonization is the result of the diffusion of atoms in the heat treatment process. On the one hand, oxygen diffuses the steel, on the other hand, the carbon in the steel diffuses outward. Only when the decarbonization rate exceeds the oxidation rate can the decarbonization layer be formed. When the oxidation rate is very high, there will be no obvious decarbonization, that is, the iron produced after decarbonization layer is oxidized to oxidized skin. Therefore, in the atmosphere of relatively weak oxidation, a deeper decarbonization layer can be formed. The decarbonization layer of steel bar includes full decarbonization layer and partial decarbonization layer (transition layer). Partial decarbonization layer refers to the normal carbon content of steel after the whole decarbonization layer. In the absence of serious decarbonization, sometimes only part of the decarbonization layer does not have a complete decarbonization layer.
