Project Commissioning Overview

A fully steel pipe induction hardening and tempering line has been successfully commissioned and entered formal continuous production. This integrated line adopts medium-frequency induction heating as the core technology, covering pipe feeding, centering, rapid heating, spray quenching, tempering, cooling, straightening and online inspection. It is designed for seamless steel pipes, alloy pipes and petroleum casing pipes used in oil & gas, hydraulic support, engineering machinery and pipeline transportation. Compared with traditional furnace heat treatment, the induction line realizes localized and uniform heating, greatly reducing oxidation and decarburization, and meets the growing demand for high-strength, high-toughness precision steel pipes.

Core Induction Heating & Quench-Tempering Process

The line is equipped with digital IGBT medium frequency power supply and segmented induction coils. When steel pipes pass through the heating station, alternating magnetic fields generate eddy current inside the pipe wall for fast and even heating. Infrared temperature sensors feed real-time data back to the PLC control system to stabilize austenitizing temperature before quenching. After high-speed spray quenching, pipes go straight to the tempering section without excessive cooling. The tempering process eliminates internal quenching stress and balances hardness and impact toughness. Operators can adjust power, line speed and cooling flow according to pipe diameter, wall thickness and steel grade flexibly.

Consistent Metallurgical Performance of Finished Pipes

Uneven hardness, residual stress and pipe bending are common defects in conventional pipe heat treatment. This induction line achieves stable temperature control along the full length and circumference of the pipe wall. The finished pipes gain uniform metallographic structure, stable HRC hardness, excellent yield strength and low brittleness. It can process a wide range of specifications, including thin-wall and thick-wall pipes. Treated pipes perform well under high pressure, impact and corrosive working conditions, lowering risks of cracking and deformation during service. It satisfies strict quality standards for oil casing and high-pressure pipeline exports.

Online Inspection & Automatic Control System

Multiple detection modules are arranged along the production line. Straightness detection, hardness sampling, wall thickness checking and surface defect scanning are completed online. Unqualified pipes will be marked and separated automatically. The whole production data including temperature curve, running speed and quenching parameters is recorded and stored for full traceability. Multi-protection functions such as water shortage, over-current, over-temperature and load fault are embedded to avoid unexpected shutdown and equipment damage. The line supports 24-hour stable continuous operation with low manual dependence.

Energy Saving & Environmental Advantages

Induction heating features high thermal efficiency and fast response. It only heats the pipe itself instead of the whole furnace cavity, cutting energy consumption significantly. No open flame and little waste gas are produced during processing. The circulating cooling water system with filtration reduces water consumption. Less burning loss and oxide scale lower subsequent cleaning workload. The green heat treatment solution helps pipe manufacturers reduce carbon emission and pass environmental assessment easily.
